Feeding & Safety
Dental treats are a great daily habit, but they're still food and still a chewing hazard if given carelessly. The bundle also contains a rubber toy, which has its own rules. This page covers how to use everything safely.
The short version
- Always supervise your dog while they chew or play. Every item on this page is a choking and blockage risk if swallowed.
- Keep fresh drinking water available at all times.
- Follow the feeding guide printed on each pack — it takes precedence over anything here.
- Match treats to your dog's weight, not their enthusiasm. A treat sized for a bigger dog is a hazard for a smaller one — and a treat sized for a smaller dog can be swallowed whole by a bigger one.
- We stock small breeds only — dogs 2 to 11 kg. Not suitable for dogs under 2 kg, over 11 kg, or puppies under 6 months. Whimzees Toothbrush treats are recommended from 9 months.
- Treats are extra calories. Reduce meal portions accordingly so your dog doesn't gain weight.
Which size should I choose?
We stock two bundles, both built for small breeds — X-Small (2–7 kg) and Small (7–11 kg). Pick by your dog's weight, not their breed or their enthusiasm. If you're not sure what your dog weighs, your vet or a pet shop will have scales.

Manufacturer weight ratings, item by item
Every chew in the box carries its own rating from the brand that makes it. Here they are, so you can check them against your dog rather than taking our word for it.

Why the Small bundle stops at 11 kg, not 12 kg
The chews in that bundle are rated differently by their manufacturers. The Whimzees Toothbrush Small is rated for dogs 7–12 kg. The Greenies Petite Original in the same box is rated 7–11 kg.
We size the bundle to the smallest range in the box, and we mean it. This is not a rounding difference to shrug off. Greenies set their weight ranges because a treat that is too small for a dog gets swallowed rather than chewed — which defeats the dental purpose entirely and is a genuine choking and blockage risk. A 12 kg dog given an 11 kg-rated Greenie is exactly that scenario.
If your dog is over 11 kg, please don't buy this bundle. We'd rather lose the sale.

For reference, the full Whimzees size range is: X-Small 2–7 kg · Small 7–12 kg · Medium 12–18 kg · Large 18–27 kg · X-Large 27 kg+. We stock the first two only, and cap the Small bundle at 11 kg because of the Greenies.
The KONG Squeezz Dental Bone is a toy, not a chew
This is the most important thing on this page. The KONG is an interactive toy — designed to be used with you, for fetch, chase and treat-stuffing. It is not a chew toy to leave lying around.
- Do not leave it available for your dog to work on unsupervised. Put it away between play sessions.
- Inspect it frequently. Take it away immediately if it is damaged or if your dog tries to swallow small pieces.
- Replace it once it is worn or damaged. No dog toy is indestructible.
- Not recommended for big biters. If your dog destroys toys quickly, this isn't the right toy for them.
- Only use toys larger than your dog's mouth. Get to know your dog's grip strength and play style first.
- The rubber is not edible. Swallowed rubber can cause an intestinal blockage.
You can stuff the grooves with treats or smear them with paste to make play more enticing — just count that towards your dog's daily food.
How often
Greenies: one per day, no more. Choose the right size so your dog chews thoroughly rather than swallowing pieces.
Whimzees Toothbrush: designed as a once-daily chew.
Prime Pantry chicken jerky: works best broken into smaller pieces as a training reward rather than eaten in one sitting.
Starmark Everlasting Treat: a longer chewing session rather than a daily treat. Use it when your dog needs occupying, and take it away once it wears down small enough to swallow.
KONG: supervised play sessions — as often as you like, but always with you.
Allergens and ingredients
- Whimzees Toothbrush treats are all-natural, hypo-allergenic and gluten free, with no added meat, grains, wheat, corn, dairy, sugar, eggs, artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. A good option for allergy-prone dogs.
- Prime Pantry Chicken Jerky Strips are a single animal protein — chicken — and are grain free and soy free. 100% Australian made using 100% Australian chicken.
- Starmark Everlasting Treats (original chicken flavour) contain rice flour, vegetable glycerin, tapioca starch, potato starch, water, carrageenan, powdered cellulose, natural chicken flavour, calcium carbonate, sunflower lecithin, citric acid and caramel colour.
- Greenies Original is a wheat-based chew.
- KONG Squeezz Dental Bone is rubber and is not edible.
If your dog has a known chicken allergy, two items in this bundle won't suit them. Get in touch before ordering.
Puppies and senior dogs
Greenies are not suitable for puppies younger than 6 months, or for any dog under 2 kg. Whimzees Toothbrush treats are recommended for dogs over 9 months of age.
If your dog is still teething, or a senior with dental disease or missing teeth, check with your vet before introducing hard chews or rubber toys.
Storage
Store treats in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight, and reseal the packs after opening. Discard any treat that looks, smells or feels wrong, and check use-by dates before feeding. Wash the KONG toy between uses, especially if you've stuffed it with food.
These are treats for dogs only — not for human consumption. Keep out of reach of children.
When to stop and call your vet
Stop and contact your vet if your dog shows any of the following after a treat or play session:
- Gagging, retching, or difficulty swallowing
- Repeated vomiting or diarrhoea
- Loss of appetite or unusual lethargy
- Bleeding from the mouth, or a broken or loose tooth
- Signs of abdominal pain or straining to pass stool
If you think your dog has swallowed a large piece of treat, or any piece of the rubber toy, treat it as urgent and call your vet straight away.
An honest note on what dental treats do
Dental chews reduce plaque and tartar build-up and help freshen breath. What they don't do is replace brushing or professional veterinary dental care. They're a useful daily supplement to good dental hygiene, not a substitute for it. If you're worried about your dog's teeth or gums, see your vet.
